Young Persons (13 to 18 years old) Privacy Policy

This is a version of The Cyber Helpline’s Privacy Policy that is aimed directly at our users aged between 13 and 18. The full version of the Privacy Policy can be found here.

This Young Persons Privacy Policy explains how we use your personal information.

What do we mean by “your personal information”?

Your personal information is anything that can be used to identify you. This includes things like your name, date of birth and email address, but may also include things such as the IP address from the device you used to contact us.

Why do we have your personal information?

When you contact us to ask for help or advice, you give us some of this information so that we can understand your case better and give you the support you need.

What do we use your personal information for?

We only use your information to help us to support and advise you. We do not give your personal information to anyone else unless we are required to do so by law, for example, if some of the information was linked to a legal case. The only time we would ever share your personal information is if we felt that you or another individual were at risk of serious harm. In this case, we may have to share it with the police or safeguarding services.

Where do we keep your personal information?

The personal information you share with us is stored in online secure databases that only we can access.

How long do we keep your personal information?

We keep your personal information for 15 years so that if it is needed in the future to help you we still have it. After 15 years it is then anonymised so that it can no longer be used to identify you.

What are your rights regarding your personal information?

An organisation called the Information Commissioner’s Office has all the legal information about your rights regarding your personal information. This can all be found here: https://ico.org.uk/global/privacy-notice/your-data-protection-rights/.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
